Reminder: 2013 First Quarter 5% Cash Back Offers

A few days ago, we posted about 2013’s first quarter 5% cash back offers from Chase, Citi, and Discover. Back then, only registration for Discover’s Cashback offer was opened. As of now, registration is open for all 3 cards, so hurry up and register! The first quarter runs from January 1, 2013-March 31, 2013.

As a reminder, here are the 5% cashback categories for each card:

  • Chase Freedom: Gas stations, Drugstores, and Starbucks stores. Up to $75 cash back ($1,500 in purchases). Sign up begins December 15th.
  • Citi Dividend: Zappos.com*, Fitness clubs, Drugstores. Up to $300 cash back ($6,000 in purchases) per calendar year. Sign up not yet open.
  • Discover Card: Restaurants and Movies. Up to $75 cash back ($1,500 in purchases). Registration is currently open.

Discover Card Double Cash Back – Dec. 12th

Today (12/22/12), use your Discover Card and you can get double cash back. You’ll have to login to your account and sign up for the 2% Cashback Bonus on all purchases. These purchases are not added to your annual purchases eligible for 1% Cashback Bonus. Allow up to two billing periods for the Cashback to be posted on your account. This promotion should stack with the 5% Cashback for online purchases.

With a Discover card, there will be frequent opportunities to get double Cashback Bonus. For example, during the month of your birthday and other big holidays, you’ll also get this same perk. If you don’t have a Discover card, you can sign up for one here.

2013 First Quarter 5% Cash Back Offers

Discover Shop Smart

Discover has rolled out Shop Smart Price Protection just in time for the holidays. Price Protection is similar to Citi Price Rewind. Use your Discover card to do your holiday shopping and if you find a lower price within 90 days, Discover will cover the difference. Unlike Citi Price Rewind however, prices will not be monitored for you and you must find the lower price yourself.

However, Discover Shop Smart has these other great benefits:

  • Protected for 90 days on stolen or damaged Discover card purchases, up to $500
  • Return your Discover card purchases within 90 days regardless of store policies
  • Automatically extended manufacturer’s or purchased warranty up to a year for FREE
  • and more year-round benefits!

Offer valid up to $1,500 in purchases, which translates to $75 cash back.

Discover Card 5% Cashback Bonus

July through September, earn 5% cash back bonus on gas, theme parks, & movies with your Discover Card. Offer valid up to $1,500 in purchases, which translates to $75 cash back. Registration for this bonus is already open and is absolutely free!

There are new offers every 3 months. The offer for October-December is 5% cash back bonus on holiday shopping. Registration begins September 1st.

Discover Card – 5% CashBack Bonus on Department Stores and Clothing Stores

Most people assume Discover Card earns 1% Cashback bonus for all of its purchases.  If you read the fine prints, the first $3,000 in purchases only earn .25% cash back bonus.  Only after $3,000 do you start to earn 1% of purchases.

Each quarter, Discover Card, offers 5% Cashback Bonus on selected categories.  For the 2nd Quarter (April 2009 – June 2009), you get 5% Cashback bonus for Home Improvement Stores, Department Stores and Clothing Stores up to $400 in purchases.

So if you have Discover Card and want to earn 5% Cash Back, make sure to FIRST signed up Discover Card for the 5%  offer (it  is not defaulted, you have to call Discover or enroll online).
